Every year Buchan Dial-a-Community Bus hosts a Soup and Sweet fundraising event, the past couple of years it has been held at the Ritchie Hall in Strichen, as it boasts a well fitted out, spacious kitchen, perfect for all of the wonderful homemade soups and puddings! This year was no different, on Saturday, 26th October we welcomed over 60 individuals to the event, numerous Shopping Service clients, friends of BDACB and members of the public. Some of our staff and Board members made Broth, Lentil and Tattie soup served with soft fresh bread and oatcakes, then followed with homemade sticky toffee pudding, apple and bramble crumble, trifle and an old favourite; dumpling all enjoyed with custard, cream and ice cream! The picture featured is of our Director hosting the ever-popular raffle, plenty of prizes donated by the local community and attendees alike. The Coop in Strichen kindly donated all the ice cream and fresh bread on the day.
Between the entry fee and raffles, a fabulous total of £470 was raised and will go towards funding a new vehicle for the fleet, hopefully something electric or hybrid.
We will be arranging another Soup and Sweet in 2020, the details will be on our Social Media nearer the time. If you’d like to volunteer your cooking skills, your time to serve or to dry up dishes, get in touch as soon as possible. It would be lovely to see some new faces, along with the familiar ones.
